Movie Rave/Friend Rave

While Ginger and I Love, LOVE, the Kyra Knightly/Matthew Macfadyen Pride and Prejudice, we decided to try something different last night. Ging has been wanting to see the first Cate Blanchett Elizabeth movie, so that was the pick. Great movie. Cate Blanchett is AMAZING. I already loved her, but it's still nice to know that you have such good taste.

Anyway, we had the most interesting movie EXPERIENCE of our recent history. The movie was so intriguing that before we were far into it we had to stop and google all the historical characters. Then as the movie ran we had to keep stopping it and filling in the history knowledge gaps for each other. To top it all off, when we were through we went back and googled everyone we hadn't googled the first time. We were so into it that we didn’t' even realize it was 12:30- way past two "old" ladies bed times.

So, here's my recommendation: 1. See Elizabeth, starring Cate Blanchett, 2. Watch it with someone who loves history and wants to learn knew things AND doesn't mind if there's talking through the whole darn thing :-) 3. Go google baby!

I LOVED that movie. I always wondered if it was true.

Ginger and I discovered that pretty much it's true. The character of Robert is real, but as to how close he and the Queen/Princess were is only rumor. However, it's rumor that was around even at the time they were living. He really was married, more than once, but that wasn't too uncommon at the time. We also discovered that Queen Mary was called "Bloody Mary." If you've seen the movie it's not hard to see why.

I think I have to wait to see the sequal "Elizabeth: the Golden Age" on video with you Tonia- and anyone else who wouldn't be bothered by our method! Also, at my house we can watch and google wirelessly at the SAME TIME!!! Thanks for being the friend who will stay awake(unlike my husband)through any mid-century movie I pick!
PS. I put "the Scarlet Pimpernel" (sp?)on hold from the Library.(the Jane Seymour version is susposed to be best.) When it comes in fire up the google!

You two should come here and watch the TUDORS with me. It is the story of Henry the VIII before he started beheading wives. It is so interesting and I always want to look things up. But I don't have a Ginger.

We really, really enjoyed the Scarlett Pimpernels (I'm a HUGE sucker for all "costume dramas" as my husband calls them). You should all come down and visit me on a Wednesday. The movie theater around the corner from my house has 50 cent movies on Wednesday and they're playing Elizabeth - The Golden Age right now.
